My partner Emily and I knew we wanted to use acrylic paints for our lesson. Our assigned mental illness we researched was bipolar disorder and we wanted the people doing this lesson to feel relaxed and free to express themselves using, different colors, paints and patterns. We chose rock painting because it also can be a lot less stressful than being handed a blank canvas being told " paint how you feel". So a rock can be very personal and it's not like people have to compare or compete with there rocks. It was also much more economic than buying canvas that way everyone can take home and paint a rock of there own. It was a huge success and every single person that painted a rock loved it and said that they either used to paint rocks as a kid so it was nostalgic or it was very clever and relaxing. Many people found it de-stressing and really enjoyed getting to take the time out of there busy lives to just paint a rock and take your mind off everything else that might be stressing.
Three Individual Art Pieces
All of these pieces are individual art pieces I made for fun on my own time. I especially love to draw eyes and bright colors and I love to draw portraits of people. The first image is of a girl that I drew inspired by very bohemian and music festival style. I love festivals and I was thinking about the kind of style I love and would see myself wearing or connecting too. I also love to draw curly hair and it's super fun and relaxing to draw in a spiral motion. A lot of my math work has spirals on the side because it is something I love to do as well. The second girl is all blue and purple. I wanted to use all cool colors and I especially gravitated towards blue and purple on that day based on how I was feeling. I remember drawing this girl for a very specific reason because she has a story. Even though I'm not super proud of the work itself there is a story and a lot of emotions that were behind that drawing. The third girl is inspired off of a picture I saw on picture and I liked the way her neck looked very elongated. So I decided to recreate the picture in my own style and add big curls and a small wide face. I really tried to focus on the eyes and work from there with the big eyelashes and large hoops as well.
