The Absolutely True Diary of a Part-Time Indian is about a boy and what is was like for him living on a reservation and being bullied at school. He had a lot of conflict with money and playing on the basketball team. This book was very interesting and the author also used a bit of humor to keep the readers engaged.
Persepolis is a comic style book also about living in the middle east. It's the story of a young girl and what it was like for her growing up admits when they started to blend religon and law and forcing her to wear clothes she didn't want to and couldn't get the music posters she wanted.
Reading Lolita in Tehran was about a group of students from a University in the Middle East that form a secret book club. The reason this is secret is because it's illegal to have books like the "Great Gatsby" and novels from America. You can't get these books anywhere because the government has taken them away. This book was also very powerful.
This book was my absolute favorite one I read this year. It was so powerful and I just got completely lost in this book for hours. It's about the Rwandan Genocide and her faith throughout it all. I would recommend this book to anyone. I had no idea that this genocide happened pretty recently too.
The alchemist was a really cool book about a shepherd that selling some of his sheep to a King for some wisdom. And it leads into the long journey from traveling and working in shops, falling in love at an oasis, on a search for treasure in the pyramids in Egypt and much more.
1984 is a dystopian novel and the story between Julia and Winston and what is it like living with"Big Brother" always watching. This book was a lot different than the books I would normally read on my own time but I liked it a lot and the concepts of living in a world where you are always watched and one mistake could change your life forever.
The Circuit was about a boy that immigrated from Mexico to the U.S and a lot of the conflict he grew up with. There was a lot of conflict from babies getting sick to having to work in the fields when he was still in elementary school .
We actually acted acted out this book in a play and it helped visualize and understand the story more when my class mates and I were actually acting out and playing as characters from the book. This really brought the story to life and I enjoyed this book a lot.
